Experience: 30 Years +
Having started his career by spending 8 years in site management, Stuart joined the technical services department of a major contractor as senior design engineer. He progressed to become chief engineer for eight years before leaving in 1998 to start Wentworth House Partnership. His early experience on site has proved invaluable in enabling him to produce economic and buildable design solutions. Stuart has published several papers on deep basement construction in the I.C.E proceedings and the Structural Engineer.

Since starting Wentworth House Partnerships Stuart has been responsible for a company whose work has included inter alia:
• Façade/building retention schemes:
• Cayenne Court - an external support scheme to a retained 13m high by 50m long listed warehouse wall
• Matthew Parker St. - bracing to internal retained steel framing to retain an 18m high by 78 m long listed brick façade on two elevations
• King William St.- bracing to internal retained steel framing to retain an 18m high by 60m long listed brick and stone façade and party walls.
• Lion Plaza - a major façade retention scheme - 250 linear meters of façade up to 22m high, with a retained listed banking hall
Deep basement shoring schemes
• Northgate House - 55m x 30m x10m deep
• Clarendon road Watford - 62m x 44m x 9m deep
• 199 Knighstbridge - 110m x 70m x 13m deep
Refurbishment projects
• 17 Curzon Street - refit of 6 storey building with new stair to top floor, mansard extension & service risers
• 5-8 Maunsel Street - conversion of 4 buildings into houses with new stairs & room configurations
• Pentland Centre Lakeside - new entrance lobby & door openings
• Pall Mall Court Manchester - new risers, entrance lobby & roof mounted plant on a 10 storey office block

During the 1980’s and 90’s he was involved in providing engineering support to many major projects throughout the UK, starting as senior design engineer and finishing as Chief Engineer. These included the Quadrangle development in Uxbridge; St. Mary Overies Dock; Land securities Aldersgate Street development - involving top down construction of 14 levels of underground parking; Norwich Union’s development with retained façade at 63 St. James’s Street SW1; 13-15 Moorgate, a five storey office block behind retained facades; The Old War Office; 12-15 Finsbury Circus featuring a 16m deep basement; 163 Great George Street Glasgow, a five storey office block behind retained masonry facades; Murrayfield rugby stadium.

During the 1970’s he was involved in road and bridge construction both in the UK and Iran, followed by a period on the Thames Barrier.

Experience: 35 Years +
Prior to joining Wentworth House Partnership in 1999, Ray worked for several Civil and Structural consultants and a developer on a wide variety of work. He has extensive experience, which he brings to bear on engineering problems to produce effective buildable solutions.

Since joining Wentworth House Partnership Ray has been responsible for inter alia:

Façade/Building retention schemes:
• Lion Plaza - a major façade retention scheme - 250 linear meters of façade up to 22m high, with a retained listed banking hall
• The Phillimores - retention of 150 linear meters of brick façade up to 13m high to the North Block which was also needled to allow a new basement under. Substantial needling of the rear elevation to the West block.
• Arup Fitzrovia - retention of a 6 storey reinforced concrete building whilst cores were removed and new cores constructed
Basement shoring schemes:
• 111 The Strand - a double basement excavation adjacent to The Strand
• No.1 London Wall -Retention of an existing basement wall whilst the basement slab was cut out and new pilecaps up to 2m deep constructed
Refurbishment projects:
• Sheraton Heathrow - courtyard infill & conference facilities
• BAe Stanmore - new entrance foyer, storerooms & plantrooms
• Pentland Centre Lakeside - new entrance lobby & door openings
• City Point - new stair and plant areas
• Pall Mall Court Manchester - new risers, entrance lobby, & roof mounted plant on a 10 storey office block

During the 1990’s, Ray was responsible as lead consultant/designer for new harbour works in Bristol, a multi storey car park, various refurbishment projects for Railtrack, assessment of a wide variety of structures for loading from aerials, microwave dishes and associated plant, a swimming pool, and senior engineer on a 3 storey extension above an existing 5 storey building.

During the 1980’s Ray was responsible for the design of a variety of steel and concrete framed buildings, supervising a team of engineers and draughtsmen. During this period he was also involved in producing cost effective designs for a developer.

Experience: 35 Years +
Having started his career by spending 7 years in site management working for contractors Bob joined a international structural consultant where he was involved for 8 years with permanent works designs both in the UK and abroad. He subsequently spent 20 years working in the technical services departments of major contractors before joining Wentworth House Partnership in 2002. His early site experience has proved invaluable in enabling him to produce economic and buildable design solutions.

Since joining Wentworth House Partnership Bob has been responsible for inter alia:

Façade/Structure retention schemes:
• 15-18 Golden Square - 22m high by 26m long & 18m high x 12m long listed brick and stone façades and party walls restraints.
• Contract 105 St.Pancras - Arch retention, facade 14m high by 200 linear m, removal of rail bridges, protection of grade 1 listed structures
• Block W8 Regent Street - 25m max high x 121 linear metres listed stone façade
Basement shoring schemes at
• 199 Knightsbridge - 110m x 70m x 13m deep
• Drummond Centre Croydon - retention of existing basement walls whilst ground floor and part basement slab demolished

During the 1990’s Bob was responsible for temporary works design and alternative permanent works design from tender through to project stage. Major temporary works schemes designed include deep basement works at Kingston, Windsor, County Hall and Park Road, London; retention of building facades at Great Portland St and King William St, London and Princes St, Edinburgh; and shoring for refurbishment jobs at the Foreign Office and Great Western Royal Hotel, London and the Grand Apartments in Manchester.

During the 1980’s Bob was responsible for temporary and permanent works design at both tender and project stage; works undertaken included permanent works design of industrial projects such as a jetty in Milford Haven, a pumping station shaft in Liverpool, London City Airport works, and temporary works design of a basement in Kingston-on-Thames.

Experience: 30 Years +
Charles joined the Wentworth House team early in 2003, prior to which he spent the majority of his career working for a contractor's design and build department on both temporary and permanent works, finishing as Engineering Manager.

During the early 2000's Charles was responsible for temporary works design, structural design of permanent works and technical advice for both contracts and tenders at a major contractor.

During the 1990's he worked for a major contractor as Engineering Manager, with accountability for all structural & geotechnical designs, all in-house permanent works design in Design and Build projects, and all temporary works design throughout the UK Construction Division's operations. Some of his tasks with this company included the facade support scheme to No 1 St Martin-le-Grand (which is believed to be the largest facade ever retained), deep basement (18m deep basement to Morgan Bank) and top-down construction systems, tower crane and hoist bases and tying systems, temporary works including earthwork support, ground water control, retained facades, shoring, vehicle and other gantries, cranes and hoists, lifting apparatus, falsework and scaffolding. He was also in charge of a wide variety of structural design of permanent works, including office blocks, hospitals, residential accommodation, warehouses, housing, and associated roads, drainage and external works and for technical advice, providing solutions to a wide range of problems arising on site. His priority was to find solutions to allow work to proceed economically and quickly, while protecting the company's interests. He was also responsible for the development, implementation, management and maintenance of a Quality Management System to ISO 9000 for the Technical Services Department at Higgs & Hill. He has always seen designing for Health and Safety and buildability as key features of the design process and is an active committee member of the Surrey Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Experience: 16 Years +
Simon joined the Wentworth House team in April 2003, prior to which he has spent all of his career working within a contractor's engineering department, principally on the development of bespoke temporary works solutions.

He will have overall responsibility for the design, development and co-ordination of all aspects of temporary works required throughout the course of a project. He will be closely involved with the supervision, installation and final approval of all temporary works. It will be Simon's responsibility to ensure the stability of both existing/ proposed structures and adjoining buildings is maintained at all times.

Simon's experience has included the following,

Facade retention

Combined dead shoring of an 1870's timber framed domed roof (24 metre diameter) including intricate plaster ceiling and retention of the three storey high facade of a grade I listed building in Brighton.
An external facade retention system for a six storey high grade II* listed terracotta facade in Wigmore Street, London, incorporating site welfare accommodation.
An internal facade retention system for an nine storey high grade II listed facade, over 100 metres long in London.
Basement excavations

A sixteen metre deep "open cut" basement excavation requiring two levels of propping to the perimeter piled wall and the development of a multipurpose construction gantry.
A twenty seven metre deep "top down" excavation, including design of permanent works to accommodate temporary loadings.
Design of permanent and temporary works associated with the excavation and construction of a 24 metre deep shaft and tunnel breakthrough.
Construction Plant

Design of structures to support plant associated with lifting, piling and demolition activities. Accommodation gantries.
